About Me

Hi! I'm Tom, born and raised in Wales, now living in London. I'm raising money for Diversity Role Models with my pooch, Tegwen. I'm a traveller at heart & never shy away from an adventure, although 300 miles still won't be easy!

Who are Diversity Role Models?

Diversity Role Models actively seeks to embed inclusion and empathy in the next generation. Our vision is a world where everyone embraces diversity and can thrive. This will help create a world where future generations embrace, accept and support difference. Our mission is to create an education system in which every young person will know they are valued and supported, whoever they are.

What do Diversity Role Models do?

We create safe spaces where young people can explore difference and consider their role in creating a world where we all feel accepted. Our student workshops feature LGBT+ or ally role models who speak openly about their lived experiences, building young people's empathy so they can understand the (often unintended) impact of their language and actions. In order to ensure sustained change we supplement this by training school governors, staff, and parents/carers.

What do your donations go towards?

How your donation helps...

42% of all pupils who took part in our workshops said they had used homophobic, biphobic or transphobic language, compared to just 14% afterwards who said they would continue to use such language. We make a difference, and we need your help to keep doing so.

How else can you help?

Volunteers are at the heart of all our work. They share their stories in schools with students, staff, governors and parents/carers, they help out in the office, and they use their professional skills to help us.

There are a number of ways to volunteer:

  • Role model - train to be one of our role models and share your story in schools to help young people gain understanding and empathy of what it's like to be LGBT+ or why it's important to be an ally.

  • Facilitator - train to run our sessions in schools with students, staff, governors and/or parents/carers.

  • Fundraising/events - support us by helping with our calendar of fundraising events, whether that's shaking a bucket around Soho one evening or helping to staff an event.

  • Administrative support - help us administratively, whether in the office or remotely. This can be a great way to gain skills and experience of day-to-day life in a small charity.

  • Professional skills - support our strategic growth by volunteering your time and professional skills on short or long-term projects.

And lastly,

This epic walk is dedicated to every LGBT+ child out there, who need a beacon of hope and need our support.

Together we can create a better life for our community by creating a more tolerable childhood, that results in less bullying and confusion.

I wish that Diversity Role Models had been around when I was in school but at least I can help, and you can, to help this wonderful initiative flourish.
